Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card Review
This Citi Dividend Platinum Select Visa credit card is Citi’s rotating 5% cash back credit card. The card enjoys impressive popularity among Citi customers thanks to its lucrative rewards and versatile categories. While no longer available to new applicants, the card was an excellent option for cash back fans that adds value to the existing Citi Custom Cash and Double Cash cards.
How to Earn Cash Back Rewards
The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Visa earns 5% cash back on rotating categories, comparable to the Chase Freedom Flex and Discover It Cash Back. Here are the Citi Dividend cash back categories for 2022:
5% Cash Back Category | |
January - March 2022 | Amazon.com and Streaming Services |
April - June 2022 | Drugstores and Grocery Stores |
July - September 2022 | Gas Stations and Home Improvement Store |
October - December 2022 | TBD |
Total cash back rewards with the Citi Dividend Card apply to the first $300 per calendar year. This rewards cap equates to $6,000 in 5% cash back spending each year, or $500 in spending each month.
All other purchases with the card earn a flat rate of 1% back, with no cap on the total number of 1% back rewards earnable.

How to Redeem Citi Rewards
Redeeming cash back rewards with Citi is straightforward. Cash back rewards with the Dividend Card from Citi apply towards statement credit, gift cards from leading brands, or a deposit into eligible Citi and external personal banking accounts.
0% Intro APR
When available, the Citi Dividend came with an impressive 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers. That 12 months of no interest on purchases and balance transfers actually pales when compared to the intro APR with Citi’s two low APR and balance transfer credit cards: the Citi Simplicity and Citi Diamond Preferred.
Both the Simplicity and Diamond Preferred feature a huge 21 months of 0% APR on balance transfers made within the first four months of account opening, plus 0% APR on purchases for the first 12 months. The 21 months on BTs is the longest active offer on balance transfers.
Other Card Features
Other features of the Citi Dividend Card include:
- Citi Entertainment access
- Choose your payment due date
The card also features Visa Platinum credit card benefits and protections, including the following:
Zero Fraud Liability | Cardholder Inquiry Services | Emergency Card Replacement |
Roadside Dispatch and Auto Collision Damage Waiver | Lost/Stolen Card Reporting | ID Navigator from Norton |
Other Citi Credit Card Options to Consider
Just because the Citi Dividend Platinum Select is no longer available doesn’t mean there aren’t any decent Citi cash back credit cards. On the contrary, currently, Citi offers two excellent cash back cards: the Citi Double Cash and the Citi Custom Cash.
Citi Custom Cash
Unlike the Dividend Visa, the Custom Cash Mastercard provides 5% back on the cardholder’s highest spending category each billing period. This “customized cash” cash back makes the card more akin to the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card – though that card only earns 3% back on the top category, vs. 5% with the Custom Cash.
Here are the 5% back categories with the Custom Cash Mastercard:
Dining | Fitness clubs | Grocery stores |
Drugstores | Gas stations | Home improvement stores |
Travel & transit (select) | Live entertainment | Streaming service (select) |
Cashback with the Custom Cash is also limited to the first $500 in spending each billing period. This cap equates to the same $300 cash back limit as the Dividend Platinum Select Card.
Citi Double Cash
The Double Cash is the bank’s other cash back card, offering unlimited 2% back on every purchase. Cardholders earn 2% back on every eligible purchase: 1% back at the time of sale and an additional 1% back when they pay their balance. Cash back is redeemable for statement credits, direct deposits, checks, or converted as ThankYou points. The card also comes with 0% intro APR for 18 months on balance transfers completed within the first four months of opening an account.
Both the Citi Custom Cash and Double Cash earn cash back as ThankYou points, Citi’s rewards currency.
