DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® Review

The DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® is a dining and delivery credit card from Chase. The card is ideally suited to the person who loves to eat – but hates to cook – thanks to its up to 4% back on eligible purchases, DashPass, and more. The card features no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees.

$100 Cash Bonus Welcome Offer

New accounts with the DoorDash credit card enjoy two excellent offers. First, you’ll enjoy a free year of DashPass membership – a $96/year value. DashPass is DoorDash’s subscription service, providing fee-free deliveries, exclusive promotions, and more. That complimentary DashPass can be extended if you spend $10,000/year on your DoorDash Mastercard. Otherwise, DashPass will auto-deduct from your card after the first year expires.

The second welcome offer is a $100 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. This $100 bonus is effectively 20$ cash back on the first $500 in spending. While a $100 sign-up bonus isn’t mind-blowing, it is an easily achievable award that doesn’t require crazy shopping sprees.

How to Earn Rewards with the DoorDash Mastercard

Since the DoorDash Mastercard is co-branded, you can expect to earn your best rewards with DoorDash orders. The card earns 4% cash back on DoorDash and Caviar orders from hundreds of thousands of merchants on the DoorDash platform, making it a great option if you prefer the selection available on the platform.

If you don’t see something on the DoorDash app that you like, the Rewards Mastercard provides a base of 3% cash back on dining when purchased directly from a restaurant, online or in-store. Still can’t find anything at the fast-food joint or down the street – why not check out the local grocery store?

That’s because the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard earns 2% cash back on grocery stores, online or in-store. All other purchases made with the card earn 1% cash back.

How Does the DoorDash Credit Card Stack Up?

The dining rewards on offer with the DoorDash Mastercard are solid, but how do they stack up with other leading dining rewards credit cards? Here are how the dining pretentions of the DoorDash credit card stack up versus some of its most popular competitors:

Card Dining rewards (X/% per $1 Spent) Other Reward Categories Other Features
DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® 4% back with DoorDash & Caviar; 3% back on when purchased directly from a restaurant 2% back on groceries and 1% back on all other purchases Complimentary DashPass for first year; no annual fee; no foreign transaction fees
Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards 4% back on dining 4% back on entertainment and popular streaming services; 3% back on groceries; 1% back on all other purchases Postmates Unlimited membership statement credit; $95 annual fee
Citi Custom Cash℠ Card 5% on purchases on your highest eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to $500 spent 1% back on all other purchases 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases and balance transfers; no annual fee
American Express® Gold Card 4X Membership Rewards® points at Restaurants, plus takeout and delivery in the U.S., 4% back on at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per calendar year in purchases, then 1X) 3X on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com $120 Uber Cash on Gold; $100 dining credit; $250 annual fee

The flexibility of the Custom Cash from Citi makes it a great option to consider if you want a more well-rounded card. Still, the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard more than holds its own, thanks to its no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and the very versatile for your day-to-dine dining and grocery needs. This is especially true with cards like the Savor or the Gold Card – where a steep annual fee doesn’t necessarily mean the best in rewards.

How to Redeem Rewards

If the rewards with the DoorDash Card are great, the redemption options for those points are limited. Unlike proprietary cards, like the previously mentioned Custom Cash, the Chase Freedom Flex, or the other leading cards, the DoorDash credit card does not offer a wide selection of award options.

Instead, you can opt for the following redemptions methods:

  • Using rewards to pay for part or all of your DoorDash or Caviar order
  • Get a statement credit or direct deposit into your associated banking account
  • Redeem rewards for gift cards from a variety of brands and retailers

Fortunately, cash back rewards with DoorDash never expire if the account is open and active – meaning you can horde your points for a party – or maybe just for a rainy day!

How to Maximize DashPass with the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard

With the benefit of one year of complimentary DashPass, maximizing your savings with DoorDash is essential. Here’s some helpful ways to maximize your DashPass membership:

① Order during off-peak hours Many restaurants on DoorDash offer discounts and incentives during off-peak hours to attract customers. Avoiding peak ordering hours can save you money – and you might get your food more quickly, too.
② Wait to place larger orders DoorDash is a great tool for anyone who wants food, groceries, or other goods delivered to them, same day. With DashPass, you’ll get free delivery on orders over $12, so waiting to order groceries can save you money. Additionally, many restaurants offer discounts on larger orders, so you can save even more money.
③ Check for exclusive deals DashPass offers access to exclusive discounts and promotions. Before ordering, check the “DashPass Deals” section of the app to see if any of your favorite restaurants are offering any discounts.
④ Refer friends DoorDash offers an incentive for referring friends or family to the service. You can earn $10 in credits for every friend you refer – a great way to score a free meal, just for showing DoorDash some love.
⑤ Use a rewards credit card When ordering your DoorDash meal, make sure to pay using a rewards credit card. Consider a dining rewards card, including the DoorDash Mastercard.

Other DoorDash Perks

The no annual fee DoorDash Rewards World Elite Mastercard provides a few nice perks beyond what was mentioned above. These two perks provide exclusive savings, including 10% off first orders of $35 or more each month (up to $15 per order) on convenience, grocery, alcohol, and DashMart purchases. You’ll also enjoy $25 off the first two Nationwide Shipping orders of $100 or more, a $50 value. This offer is an up to $50 benefit each year.

The DoorDash credit card also enjoys World Elite Mastercard protections and benefits. Cardholders can anticipate the following when using their new DoorDash Mastercard:

Zero Liability Protection Airport Concierge Cell Phone Protection
Mastercard Global Services Priceless Experiences Lyft Credits
ID Theft Protection Priceless Golf DoorDash Offers
Mastercard Travel Services ShopRunner Membership Hello Fresh Savings
Mastercard Hotel Stay Guarantee Fandango Savings

JPMorgan Chase Card Ratings

How does the card stack up? Here is a selection of expert reviews for the card, as well as an overview of JPMorgan Chase as a bank:

Should You Apply for the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard®?

So, does the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard® from Chase make sense for you? That depends on how much you like to order in. The card is ideal for the homebody wanting to earn rewards while grabbing a pizza, ordering wings, or getting essentials via the DoorDash app. If that’s you, then this no annual fee option is a great choice because it rewards the DoorDash fan with plenty of perks..

For everyone else, however, there are better general rewards cards available. Beyond the cards mentioned above (Citi Custom Cash℠, Capital One Savor, etc,), options like the Citi® Double Cash Card or the rent-focused Bilt Mastercard might make more sense. The latter credit card is particularly intriguing, thanks to its reward focus on paying our rent or mortgage.
