Capital One Venture Rewards Card Review
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is a no-nonsense travel rewards card with unlimited miles for a decent annual fee. The Venture Card is one of three cards using that name from Capital One, offering up to unlimited 5X miles on purchases for a $95 annual fee.
An Impressive Welcome Bonus
New accounts with the Venture Rewards Card can earn an impressive 75,000 bonus miles once they spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening. That welcome offer has a cash value of slightly more than $1,000 when redeemed with Capital One Travel powered by Hopper for flights, hotels, and more.
Earn Double Miles on Everything (and then some)
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is one of the premier travel cards thanks – in part – to the impressive rewards it earns. The card earns an unlimited amount of miles on two categories – both of which are ones any frequent traveler spends on:
- Earn unlimited 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and
- Earn unlimited 2X miles per dollar on every purchase
The 5X on travel with Capital One Travel is great for the frequent flyer—Capital One Travel, powered by Hopper, provides a streamlined booking experience for Capital One Rewards cardholders. Venture cardmembers enjoy complimentary Price Drop Protection on flight bookings, meaning they’ll be refunded the difference for any additional changes to fares between booking and take-off. Customers will also enjoy the best price guarantee on flights, hotels, and car rental bookings.
And even if you don’t travel enough to use the unlimited 5X miles – don’t worry. Even those who travel rarely can use a lucrative category like “all other purchases.” After all, it is quite a broad category.
Comparing the Venture Cards
As mentioned, the Venture Rewards Card is the mid-range option from Capital One – one of the most popular issuers of travel credit cards in the country. Here is how the three Venture Cards compare:
|
|
|
|
Card | Venture X Rewards | Venture Rewards | VentureOne Rewards |
Rewards rate | Unlimited 10X miles on hotels and rental cards through Capital One Travel, 5X on flights through Capital One Travel, 2X miles on every other purchase | Unlimited 2X miles on every purchase | Unlimited 1.25X miles on every purchase |

Annual fee | $395 | $95 annual fee | $0 annual fee |
How to Redeem Miles
Capital One Rewards points have a value of approximately 1.4 cents per point. This valuation is based upon the best redemption options through the rewards program, which is travel. Travel options include flights, hotels, cruises, and rental cars booked through the Capital one Rewards portal.
Rewards also transfer to a variety of Capital One airline and hotel partners. Current Capital One airline and hotel transfer partners are:
AeroMexico (Club Premier) | British Airways (Executive Club) | EVA Air (Infinity Miles) |
Air Canada (Aeroplan) | Emirates (Skywards) | Qantas Miles |
Avianca (LifeMiles) | Etihad Guest | Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer) |
Air France/KLM (Flying Blue) | Finnair Plus | TAP (Miles&Go) |
Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles) | ALL (Accor Live Limitless) | Choice Privileges |
Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles) |
Cardholders can also use their points towards various award options, including cash back, statement credits, gift cards, or shopping (including using points with Amazon).
Capital One Venture Rewards Cardholders can also opt to use points through PayPal and its Pay with Rewards program. Pay with Rewards is PayPal’s flexible rewards platform that allows select credit cardholders to use their rewards points to make purchases anywhere in the world that PayPal is accepted. The program allows cardholders the ability to pay for purchases entirely with their points or partially with their rewards.
Impressive Travel Perks for a Modest Annual Fee
Beyond the impressive rewards, the Venture Card also provides several other travel-oriented benefits. Cardholders can anticipate a $100 statement credit for TSA Precheck or Global Entry application costs. This perk will allow them to make their way through TSA security when departing quickly and U.S. Customers when arriving from their travels.
Here’s a full rundown of the travel perks you can anticipate with the Venture Rewards Card:

Should You Apply for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card?
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is an excellent travel card for those who prefer points to perks but don’t want to pay a steep annual fee for a versatile card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve®. The $95 annual fee is waived for the first year, giving new accounts ample time to amass an impressive haul of miles. Capital One makes this task easier, thanks to 2X miles on every purchase and an impressive 75,000 miles after meeting minimum spend requirements.
The card doesn’t offer the massive array of airport perks that comes from pricier travel card options. Still, a TSA Precheck statement credit is a bonus worth taking advantage of. The wide selection of redemption options is another great perk, as are the 15+ transfer partners, including names like Etihad, Air Canada, jet Blue, and Wyndham.
Overall, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is a very nice rewards card for those who love to travel but can’t justify an annual fee of over $100. Those unsure of the card is right for them can also consider the similarly priced Chase Sapphire Preferred or Citi Premier® Card.
