ScoreRewards Mastercard® Review

The ScoreRewards Mastercard is a retail credit card designed for people who frequently purchase equipment and clothes for their favorite sports and outdoor activities. Perks include double points for in-store (and online) purchases made with DICK’S and its affiliates, as well as exclusive offers, insider access to deals and new merchandise, and much more. Fishermen can earn points from their purchases at Field & Stream, and golfers will also enjoy these perks from purchases at Golf Galaxy.

Welcome Offer

The Mastercard® features a special thank-you signup bonus: Earn 3X points on qualified in-store and DICKS.com purchases the day you open and use a new account. Thanks to this introductory bonus, the $100 spent on your first day nets a $10 reward, which would require a higher spend otherwise.

Special Financing or Reward Points: Your Choice

Cardholders can also choose special financing for in-store purchases of $399. The special financing you receive will vary and is subject to your credit approval. Financing allows you to avoid interest charges on large in-store purchases that are made using the credit card for a predetermined period.

A large purchase may not be in everyone’s budget, but if you don’t plan to make one ($400 or more) using your new ScoreRewards Mastercard on the first day, you’ll still enjoy an exclusive thank-you perk.

The Mastercard earns points from purchases at the following rates:

  • Earn 2X points on qualified purchases at DICK’S in-store and at DICKS.com
  • Earn 1X points for every $3 spent using the card anywhere else Mastercard is accepted

Note that special financing, Field & Stream, and Golf Galaxy in-store kiosk and online purchases only earn 1X point for each $1 spent on purchases.

How to Redeem Points

Rewards can only be used to purchase merchandise; they cannot be applied to your credit card bill. Unconverted points expire one year from the date earned. Cardholders who have accrued 300 or more points can use their mobile app to easily convert them from their mobile device and avoid losing their Rewards.

Cardholders who close their credit card account will retain their membership in the ScoreCard program and can still redeem their earned points until they expire.

What is Dick’s ScoreCard Rewards Program?

ScoreCard is the loyalty program from DICK’S Sporting Goods. Offering special rewards, exclusive deals, and inside access to new (and exclusive) gear, the ScoreCard program is free to sign up for. It has two status tiers – Basic and Gold.

ScoreCard and ScoreCard Gold Benefits

ScoreCard members can earn points that convert into rewards. These rewards are a cash-equivalent rebate that can be redeemed directly at DICK’S Sporting Goods stores. Members earn 1 point for every $1 spent on qualified purchases at DICK’S Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream locations, and online stores. They’ll also have access to exclusive loyalty offers via mail and email.

Members can redeem their points at the following rate: A $10 reward is issued for every 300 points earned. This means that each point is worth approximately 3 cents – a 0.33% cash back rate.

ScoreCard members who spend $500 in a calendar year (or hold an active ScoreRewards credit card) will achieve Gold status, which unlocks even more benefits, including members-only perks and more ways to earn points.

Download the Mobile App

The DICK’S Sporting Goods mobile application is a useful tool for tracking your rewards points, as well as redeeming rewards and viewing coupons. It also encourages users to engage in physical activity and exercise by featuring additional ways to earn reward points thanks to the MOVE fitness tracker function within the app. There’s even a reward for joining MOVE – you’ll earn 100 ScoreCard points simply by signing up for the fitness tracking program.

Members can incentivize their fitness goals by linking their ScoreCard rewards account to one of several fitness trackers. Earn up to 3X extra points each day in the following ways:

  • Customers who have Fitbit, Apple Health, or Garmin trackers can earn 3 ScoreCard points each day by reaching at least 10,000 steps on their tracker.
  • Those who use MapMyRun or MapMyFitness apps and reach at least 3 miles while using these trackers will earn 3 ScoreCard points each day they meet their goal.
  • 3X ScoreCard points can be earned each day a member completes at least 30 minutes of fitness activity.

Unfortunately, users are limited to a daily maximum of 3X points per ScoreCard account, so anyone who achieves all of the above goals cannot combine their points.

ScoreRewards MasterCard® Benefits

Both credit cards from DICK’S Sporting Goods earn rewards from purchases at DICK’S. ScoreRewards Mastercard® cardholders automatically qualify for gold status if they maintain their account in good standing and use their card at least once each calendar year.

Other Cards to Consider

Cards like Bloomingdale’s American Express Card offer a beefed-up rewards program that bestows more points than the ScoreRewards Mastercard and also features higher rewards for spending on purchases outside of Bloomingdale’s stores. (Bloomingdale’s Amex rewards 3X points for each $1 spent on all purchases outside of the store. The ScoreRewards Mastercard rewards 0.333X points per dollar on purchases made outside of DICK’S Sporting Goods.)

Cards like the Bass Pro Shops® CLUB Card offer a beefed-up rewards program that bestows a higher cash back rate than the ScoreRewards Mastercard, bestowing up to 5X points on spending directly at Bass Pro Shops, with a slightly lower rewards rate at Cabela’s, Cenex convenience stores, and everywhere else.

On the other hand, for those who want a bit more flexibility when it comes to how they can earn extra rewards, the Sportsman’s Warehouse Explorewards Visa® bestows double points on purchases outside of the retailer. Cardholders can earn double the rewards for gas purchases, campground reservations, and home improvement spending.

Mastercard Benefits

The card also offers the benefits and protections that come from a Mastercard product. These features include:

Should You Apply for the ScoreRewards Mastercard® From Synchrony Bank?

ScoreRewards Mastercard is a great credit card option for sports fans and fitness fanatics. Cardholders are automatically awarded gold status in the ScoreCard program, and every purchase they make at DICK’S and its affiliates will earn points towards cash-back rewards that are redeemable directly with the retailer. It’s worth noting that the redemption of rewards earned from using this card is limited to transactions made directly at DICK’S.

This lack of flexibility could be a deal-breaker for someone who wants to get rewarded for multiple types of purchases or who would prefer the ability to choose how their rewards are redeemed.

The ScoreRewards Mastercard is best for cardholders who will pay their balance in full each month or take advantage of their special financing options for new cardholders.

Overall, the ScoreRewards Mastercard® credit card offers great value for people who frequently purchase sports equipment – tennis rackets, baseball bats, cleats, running gear – and those who like buying branded clothing to show off their favorite sports teams.

Since it’s a co-branded credit card that is tied to DICK’S Sporting Goods, it’s a good fit for people who make frequent purchases at that particular retailer. Folks who want to earn rewards but would like more flexibility in how points can be earned and redeemed might prefer to look at other options.
