United Quest Card Review

The United Quest Card is the latest airline rewards card from Chase Bank and United Airline’s loyalty program, United MileagePlus. The card comes packed with perks and bonus miles, helping to justify its $250 annual fee.

A Huge Welcome Bonus

The United Quest Card comes with an impressive mileage bonus of 70,000 miles. New accounts can earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months after their account is open.

United MileagePlus miles have an approximate value of 1.3 cents per mile, making this signup bonus an impressive $900 value when used for United flights, upgrades, or associated travel costs – or flights with other Star Alliance carriers.

$125 United Purchase Credit

The United Quest Card also benefits from a $125 United Purchase Credit each year. This statement credit provides a credit for incidentals purchases before or during a United operated flight, and effectively cuts the card’s annual fee in half. The credit applies towards reimbursement for United purchases and refreshes on each cardmember anniversary.

How to Earn Miles with the United Quest Card

Like any good rewards credit card, Chase’s United Quest Card earns extra miles through an impressive array of categories:

  • Earn 3X miles on United purchases
  • Earn 2X miles on all other travel purchases
  • Earn 2X miles on select streaming services and dining
  • Earn 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases

As you would expect, the United Quest Card earns the most miles through United purchases. However, keep in mind that the 3X miles per dollar spent on United purchases (including airfare, upgrades, incidentals, etc.) only occurs after they finish using the $125 United Purchases credit.

The 2X miles on all other travel purchases (outside of United Airlines) includes a wide range of travel categories – including daily commute costs. Beyond the typical airfare, cruises, hotels, and car rental bookings, United Quest cardholders will also earn 2X miles on trains, local transit, taxis, and rideshares (like Uber and Lyft).

They can also earn 2X miles on select streaming services. These services are the same as other Chase co-branded and proprietary credit cards and include:

Apple Music HBO Max Showtime YouTube TV
Apple TV Hulu SiriusXM Vudu
Disney+ Netflix Sling
ESPN+ Paramount+ Spotify
FuboTV Peacock YouTube Premium

5,000 Miles Anniversary Award Flight Credit

Because of the steep annual fee, United and chase try very hard to provide cardholders with impressive mile-earning potential.  This includes a 5,000-miles anniversary award flight credit up to two times per year.

Starting on their first anniversary, cardholders get 5,000 miles back in their MileagePlus account after taking a United or United Express-operated award flight booked with miles — up to two times every anniversary year.

How to Redeem Miles

Redeeming MileagePlus miles is a straightforward process. The most common is to redeem rewards for flights, either with United Airlines directly or through Star Alliance partners. Bonuses also apply to several other airline partners, retail, and travel options.

The simplest way to redeem is by booking United or United Express award tickets and flights. MileagePlus currently offers two types of award seat: Saver Awards and Everyday Awards:

  • Saver Awards: More economical, with redemption flights starting from 5,000 to 12,000 miles. These low-cost award flights have lower availability, making them difficult to book.
  • Everyday Awards: More availability – at a higher price. Everyday Award flights offer unrestricted access for elite-tier MileagePlus members.

Award flights are also bookable with United partners, including Star Alliance carriers like Air Canada, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Asiana, Avianca, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and more. United hotel partners include Choice Hotels, Wyndham, Marriott, Hyatt, Radisson, IHG, and more. MileagePlus members can also redeem miles towards car rentals, cruises, or shopping purchases through the United MileagePlus portal.

Miles in the MileagePlus program never expire.

Other Card Features

Beyond the United travel perks and earning potential of the card, what else is there to know about the United Quest Card from Chase?

The card features a competitive but uninspiring APR on purchases and balance transfers. That interest rate is slightly below the national average APR for an airline card, but not so much that it warrants any special note. There are also no introductory APR periods of which to speak.

The card does feature Chase’s My Chase Loan, a feature akin to Amex’s Pay It Plan It. This feature allows cardholders to finance larger purchases (such as an expensive holiday) separate from their typical spending. However, it does come with a finance charge of 1.72% of each eligible purchase transaction or amount selected.

Beyond the interest rates and fees, the card also comes with the usual benefits and protections you’d expect from a Visa Signature credit card. These features include:

Zero Fraud Liability Cardholder Inquiry Services Emergency Card Replacement Luxury Hotel Collection Extended Warranty Coverage
Roadside Dispatch Lost/Stolen Card Reporting ID Navigator from Norton Travel & Emergency Assistance

FAQs About the United Quest Card

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the United Quest Card, along with the answers:

  • Chase credit cards require a good or excellent credit score to qualify. This means you will likely need a credit score of around 680/690 or higher to qualify for the Quest Visa Signature.
  • Award flights in the United MileagePlus start as low as 12,500 miles for economy flights and 30,000 miles for business fares.

Chase Bank Ratings

How does the Chase United Airlines Quest Visa stack up? Here are a selection of expert reviews for the card, as well as an overview of JP Morgan Chase as a bank:

Should You Apply for the United Quest Card?

Is the United Quest worth the $250 annual fee? For the dedicated United Airlines traveler, the answer is likely “yes.” The annual fee is more than recouped with the United travel credit and impressive anniversary bonus that can easily equal award flights in no time. The free checked bags, priority boarding, and other travel-centric perks also are points in favor of the card.

However, one profound question that the card raises is how does it compare with the other ultra-premium United MileagePlus card from Chase – the United Club Infinite?

The United Club Infinite is the premier card in the Chase range of United credit cards. The card, featuring a huge $525 annual fee, boasts United Club membership – providing unlimited access to premium United Club lounges. That perk is a $650 value, making it perfect for dedicated United travelers who fly frequently. Since that card is geared towards the United-fanatic, why would they get a card without lounge access to save $300 per year?

That is the ultimate question with the United Quest Card from Chase: do you fly enough that you want lounge access with your miles, or can you skip the lounges and just focus on award flights? If the answer is the latter, then the United Quest Card from Chase might be the best card for you. If not, shell out the extra $300 and kick your feet up in a plush lounge when you fly.
