SkyBlue SKYPASS Visa Card Review

The SkyBlue SKYPASS Visa is a basic airline rewards card for those who prefer to travel on Korean Air but don’t want the more prestigious SKYPASS Visa Signature Card. The card earns basic rewards on Korean Air purchases but provides enhanced rewards in everyday categories, all for no annual fee.

SKYPASS Miles Welcome Offer

Like the other SKYPASS Visa® credit cards from U.S. Bank, the SkyBlue SKYPASS Visa offers a decent and easily achievable welcome miles bonus. New accounts earn 10,000 Bonus Miles after spending $1,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days. That sign-up bonus has a cash value of around $100, which is equivalent to an excellent earning rate of 10X on that spend.

Earn On Everyday Types of Purchases

Interestingly, the SkyBlue version of the SKYPASS Visa credit card doesn’t earn accelerated rewards on Korean Air purchases. Instead, airfare purchases fall under the “all other purchases” category, earning a paltry 1X miles per $1 spent. Because of this, SkyBlue isn’t really an airline credit card, but rather, something more akin to the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card.

Fortunately, the card earns accelerated rewards in two “everyday” categories: rideshares, like Lyft and Uber, and select streaming services. Purchases in these two categories earn 2X miles per $1 spent, with no cap on the total number of miles earnable.

Here is what U.S. Bank classifies as an eligible streaming service:

Disney+ Vudu Google Play Music
FandangoNOW YouTube Premium Pandora
Hulu Amazon Music SiriusXM
Netflix Apple Music Slacker Radio
Sling TV YouTube Music Spotify

How to Redeem Miles

SKYPASS miles are applicable to reward flights with Korean Air and any other SkyTeam airlines. The SkyTeam Alliance, featuring names like Delta, Air France, KLM, and more, reaches over 1,000 destinations worldwide. Miles also apply towards seat upgrades, additional baggage allowances, lounge access, rental cars, and stays with SkyTeam hotel partners.

Thin On Perks

While every other Korean Air SKYPASS credit card features an annual fee, the SkyBlue SKYPASS Card features no annual fee – always a nice perk. However, don’t expect many airport-centric perks because the card has no annual fee. There are no complimentary lounge passes, for example, or priority boarding.

U.S. Bank Ratings

How does the U.S. Bank stack up? Here is a selection of expert reviews for the card, as well as an overview of U.S. Bank as a bank:

Should You Apply for the SkyBlue SKYPASS Visa?

If you are likely to travel now and then and are looking for a straightforward way to earn miles without paying an annual fee, the SkyBlue SKYPASS Visa Card is a decent option to consider. The card offers a straightforward way to earn towards award flights with Korean Air or another SkyTeam member without an annual fee.

Ultimately, the lack of robust rewards is what sets this card back. Far more lucrative credit cards are available, including ones with easy mileage transfers to Korean Air, such as the Delta credit cards from American Express.
