Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card Review

If your business travels take you overseas, you’ll love the impressive luxury features of the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card. The ultra-premium airline card from American Express offers average rewards. Still, it makes up for it with a huge assortment of Delta and airport perks like lounge access, priority boarding, and more – for an annual fee of $550.

Introductory Offers

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card comes with an impressive SkyMiles welcome offer. New business accounts earn 100,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $6,000 in purchases on the card in the first three months of account membership. That welcome bonus has a cash value of over $1,000 when booking travel through Delta.com – an easily achievable target if you plan to issue multiple employee cards.

How to Earn Miles

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Cardholders earn 3X miles on purchases directly with Delta. This earning rate is the same as the 3X miles with Delta purchases with the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card. All other purchases with the card earn a single SkyMiles for every dollar spent.

Earn More On Large Purchases

Businesses also earn accelerated rewards when making larger purchases with their card. You’ll earn 1.5X miles on large purchases of $5,000 or more. However, please note that this bonus only applies to the first 50,000 Bonus Miles an account earns in this category each year.

How to Redeem SkyMiles

Miles are redeemable on Delta and through the SkyTeam Alliance of over 30 carriers. There is no cap or limit on the number of earnable SkyMiles, meaning this card is ideal for those firms that use their cards regularly – and issue them widely. Here’s a list of SkyTeam member carriers:

Aeromexico China Airlines Garuda Indonesia Air France Saudia
Air Europa China Eastern Airlines Kenya Airlines China Southern Airlines TAROM
Aeroflot Czech Airlines LATAM Korean Air Vietnam Airlines
Aerolineas Argentinas Delta Air Lines KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Middle East Airlines XiamenAir
Air Europa ITA Airways Virgin Atlantic Shanghai Airlines JinAir

Other ways businesses can redeem miles include seat and cabin upgrades through Delta, Delta gift cards, Delta Vacations or Experiences, and incidental fees when flying with Delta. Delta miles are redeemable for gift cards or purchases made through the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal.

Sky Club & Centurion Lounge Access

Since the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business Card is an airline card, you probably expect it to offer access to an airport lounge network. You are mostly correct, as Reserve cardmembers enjoy complimentary lounge access, but not just one lounge network – two!

Delta SkyMiles Reserve business cardmembers enjoy complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs for themselves and an exclusive per-visit rate of $50 per person for up to two guests on each visit. Delta’s Sky Club is an exclusive retreat where you can work or relax before your flight. Sky Clubs are currently open in 50 global destinations, where you and your guests can enjoy complimentary cocktails, fresh and healthy food options, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and more.

But there’s more. When you or one of your employees purchase a Delta flight with the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card, you’ll receive complimentary access to The Centurion® Lounge or The Escape Lounge. The Centurion Lounge and Delta Sky Club combo provides access to two of the most exclusive airport lounges in the world – and with Amex aggressively reducing the eligible cards for Centurion access, this is a very exclusive perk for your employees.

Other Luxury Business Perks

But there are far more travel perks with the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card. First, you’ll enjoy a Status Boost®, which can help get your account closer to Medallion Status with even more Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs). MQMs are earned based on the distance flown and the ticket fare class. Cardmembers earn a single MQM per mile flown with regular economy class tickets. Travelers earn between 1.5 to 2 MQMs per mile flown for higher-priced fares.

When using the Delta Reserve Business Card, you and your employees will also enjoy 20% savings on in-flight purchases. This reward takes the form of a statement credit on the account. There are also no foreign transaction fees should your business take you abroad.

And there’s more – so much so that we’ve created this handy table to break the rest down for you:

Annual Companion Certificate Cardholders receive a domestic first-class, comfort+, or main cabin round-trip companion fare each year on card renewal.
TSA Precheck/ Global Entry Cardholders receive a statement credit for TSA Precheck or Global Entry application fees when they use the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card to pay.
Priority Upgrades Reserve cardholders have upgrade priority over other Medallion members within the same fare class.
Priority Boarding Cardmembers enjoy Main Cabin 1 priority boarding on all Delta flights.
1st Checked Bag Free Cardmembers can check luggage and get their first bag for free and save up to $60 on a round trip Delta flight.
Sky Club Guest Pass One free one-time-use guest pass for SkyClub lounges every year.
Concierge for Reserve Reserve cardholders receive exclusive access to Delta’s premium concierge service to help them with every aspect of their travel experience.

American Express Ratings

How is Amex as a credit card issuer? Here is a selection of ratings for American Express from experts and the general public:

Should You Apply for the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card?

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card is an excellent option for companies that frequently send employees overseas for business. While the regular version of the card is targeted toward the elite traveler, the business version is ideally suited for all companies who travel, be it regularly or occasionally.

With a host of impressive perks, such as SkyClub access, priority boarding, a first checked bag free, and no foreign transaction fees, employees can travel in comfort – all while protecting the company’s bottom line. While the $550 annual fee may seem steep, the additional benefit of employee cards helps off-set this cost (as does the SkyClub membership).
