While the Platinum Card from American Express might not seem like a “holiday entertaining” type of card, for 2021 that belief couldn’t be further from the truth. This year, Amex has added a huge array of perks to the Platinum Card (including a supercharged $695 annual fee.

Amex also added a special welcome offer for new cardmembers, however, making the card the ideal partner for entertaining friends or family this holiday season. New Platinum Cardmembers earn 10X points on eligible purchases at restaurants worldwide for the first six months – making the card perfect for grabbing a holiday mean with co-workers, friends, or anyone else for that matter.

The Platinum Card from Amex also features a selection of other holiday entertaining-centric features to help maximize your savings this year, including:

  • $200 in Uber Cash statement credits
  • $155 Walmart+ statement credit
  • $240 Digital Entertainment statement credits
  • Access to exclusive tables and events via Resy

The Chase Freedom Flex Mastercard is an exceptional entertainment credit card any time of the year, thanks to Chase’s lucrative welcome offer. New accounts with the card earn 5% cash back on grocery store purchases on up to $12,000 spent in the first year of card membership.

After that 5% back intro offer ends, cardholders will need to monitor the Chase Freedom 5% Cash Back Calendar to earn 5% back on rotating categories every quarter. For Q4 2021, those categories are and PayPal.

While Walmart grocery purchase typically doesn’t count towards groceries (nor do Target or other large box stores), PayPal offers exceptional versatility – including paying for contactless payment or delivery services.  As an extra bonus for savvy spenders, Chase is upping the ante with even more cash back: purchases through the top spend category of PayPal will earn a total of 9% cash back.

The Capital One Savor is one of the best dining and entertainment credit cards on the market today. The card, which carries a relatively modest $95 annual fee, earns an impressive 4% cash back on dining and entertainment, 2% at grocery stores, and 1% on all other purchases.

As detailed in our comprehensive Savor review, the Savor easily recoups that $95 yearly charge with just $198 in dining purchases every month – an easy task for the well-seasoned foodie. And since the card also earns 2% back on groceries, it offers plenty of value for those who prefer to dine out or create their own culinary delights at home.

The Savor also comes with a complementary food delivery membership through Postmates. This benefit offers $99 in value, quickly recouping the annual fee – and saving cardholders money while earning 4% back on their order!

Planning on entertaining at home? If so, the Blue Cash Preferred from American Express is an excellent option to consider this holiday season. The Preferred-Blue Cash Card is Amex’s answer to the Savor Card, featuring enhanced cash back on select purchases and a $95 annual fee (which Amex waives for the first year).

Like the Savor, the Blue Cash Preferred earns elevated cash back in categories that are essential for great holiday entertaining. These bonus categories include:

  • 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%)
  • 6% back on select streaming services
  • 3% cash back at gas stations and on transit

New accounts also enjoy a $300 statement credit when they use their new American Express Blue Cash Preferred credit card to make $3,000 in purchases in the first three months of card membership. That welcome offer is easily attainable for the average spender – and even easier to reach for the holiday entertainer looking to put smiles on faces this holiday season.

Honorable Mentions

Want some more holiday entertaining credit card options to consider? Here are two cards that just missed out on our top spots:

PenFed Platinum Rewards VISA Signature

PenFed Platinum Rewards VISA Signature® Card

The PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature narrowly misses out on the list this year. Why? The card is an excellent gas rewards credit card that provides 5X points per $1 at gas stations and 3X on groceries. Still, with the limitations on travel for many Americans, it just doesn't match the other cards' flexibility.

citi double cash 224x141

Citi® Double Cash Card

The Citi® Double Cash Card is a cash back credit card that makes entertaining easy. In fact, it makes everything easy by offering 2% back on all eligible purchases. You'll get 1% back when making the purchases and another 1% back after paying the balance off.
