Zions Bank, part of Zions Bancorp, is a Utah-based bank and financial institution. The history of Zions dates to 1879 and the founding of Zion’s Bank Savings Bank and Trust Company by Utah pioneer, Brigham Young. Zions bank is the first state-chartered bank in Utah.

The bank has a history of financing major projects, including the Salt Lake and Los Angeles Railway (now the Union Pacific Railroad), the Salt Lake Gas Company (now Questar Gas), and Big Cottonwood Power Company (now Rocky Mountain power) among others.

Zions began expansion in 1985, purchasing Nevada State Bank. The expansion continued through the following years, with the bank now operating in Texas, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, New Mexico, and Washington State.
