NJIT PRO Credit Card Review

The NJIT PRO Credit Card is the no annual fee, professional version of the student NJIT EDU. The card features a slate of impressive perks and cash back in one unique card package.

Ideal for International Students

Student credit cards are generally much easier to receive than regular credit cards. This easier application requirement stems from the fact that they are designed towards those with limited – or no credit history. Deserve’s student cards take this a step further by removing the need for an SSN, opening the world of unsecured credit to a broader selection of students.

No SSN requirement makes the card ideal for international students seeking to establish a US credit history but not wanting to pay a security deposit to open a secured credit card account. All international Highlanders students need to apply is their passport, US bank account information, and valid US student visa.

Accelerated Cash Back

The NJIT PRO Card differs from other Deserve credit cards in that it offers additional cash back purchases in select accelerator categories. The Deserve PRO, for instance, offers up to 3% back, whereas the student version, the NJIT EDU, offers a flat rate of unlimited 1% cash back rewards only.

The bonus categories of travel and dining enjoy significant value. Cardholders earn 3% cash back per dollar spent on select travel purchases, including hotel bookings, flights, rental cars, and more. Cardholders also earn 2% back on restaurants and dining – including takeout and delivery services like Postmates, GrubHub, UberEATS, DoorDash, and more.

Deserve limits the enhanced cash back categories to the first $500 in spending each billing period. After that, all cardholders earn a flat rate of 1% cash back, with no limit on the rewards earnable.

Priority Pass Membership

The complimentary Amazon Prime Student membership after students meet a minimum spending goal within the first three billing cycles is equally enjoyable. Students that spend $500 in the first three months receive that Prime Student membership. Prime offers free shipping, streaming videos and music, and more for members, meaning students enjoy real value with this bonus – a $59 value.

No Foreign Transaction Fees

The NJIT Pro offers a more enticing perk for travelers than the Amazon Prime subscription available to NJIT EDU cardholders: Priority Pass Select membership.

New PRO accounts recieve a complimentary one-year membership to Priority Pass Select after making $1,000 of purchases with the NJIT PRO card within the first 90 days after activation. Priority Pass membership provides access to over 1,500 airport lounges worldwide. This bonus has a value of $99, which is an excellent travel reward for a modest spending goal.

Other Card Features

Other notable features of the NJIT PRO Mastercard include:

  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Mastercard World features
  • Zero Fraud Liability
  • Mastercard Luxury Hotel Collection and Concierge access
  • Three months of Text + Talk compliments of Mint Mobile
  • Cellphone protection of up to $600 when paying the bill with your card
  • Generous initial credit limits of up to $10,000

Should You Apply for the NJIT PRO Credit Card?

The NJIT PRO Mastercard has plenty going for the NJIT alumnus that is fairly new to rewards credit cards. The card earns adequate cash back rewards on the sorts of purchases professionals regularly make, but the cap on earrings means that value has its limits.

The potential of Priority Pass Select is an enticing prospect – even if the visits come at a cost – and aren’t free as with other premium travel cards. Still, for a card with no annual fee, it is a great feature.

Overall, the NJIT PRO Credit Card provides enough to justify an application for the NJIT Highlanders alumnus that wants an entry-level rewards card with generous credit lines and a more forgiving application process.
