About Golden 1 Credit Union

Golden 1 is a leading credit union, with its headquarters in Sacramento, California.

The credit union began as the California State Employees Credit Union in 1933, changing its name to Golden 1 in 1977. The credit union was the first to receive a statewide field of membership in California. This award allowed the union to serve members across the Golden State – something it still does to this day.

Today, Golden 1 is one of the largest credit unions in the United States. The community bank boasts over one million members and $12 billion in assets.

The bank is one of the largest credit unions in the United States. The bank has a history of excellent service to both members and the community. This service excellence includes local sponsorships, such as those with the Sacramento Kings of the NBA.

Locations Served

Golden 1 currently operates throughout the state of California. To date, the bank operates more than 70 local branches and features more than 70,000 ATMs. These ATMs are operated through CO-OP, a cooperative of credit union machines for use by all member credit unions.

Golden 1 has branches in all major California towns and cities, except for some major cities in Southern California. Locations like Orange County and San Diego are still accessible for members, thanks to the CO-OP ATMs.

Most branches are in the Northern California and Bay Areas. The bank’s headquarters of Sacramento has a high concentration of branches, as does San Francisco, Stockton, Folsom, and other locations.

Who Can Join Golden 1 Credit Union?

Membership is less restrictive than many other credit unions. The following individuals are eligible for membership with Golden 1:

  • All California residents
  • Anyone who works in California
  • Non-resident membership is open to the family of current Golden 1 members
  • Members of over 1,000 Select Employee Groups

Becoming a member of Golden 1 requires opening a savings account. Even funding a Golden 1 savings account with just $1 is enough to become a member.
