Chase AARP® Credit Card Review

The AARP® Credit Card from Chase is offered with the established group’s members in mind, going where they go as they make purchases across any desired category. The card encourages immediate use with its signup bonus: $100 in cash back after spending at least $500 within the first 90 days of opening an account. Be it everyday purchases or a splurge buy, all expenses contribute towards hitting this goal.

For consumers who do most of their credit card shopping at restaurants, the AARP® Credit Card from Chase will return 3% of every purchase. This includes everything from fast food and takeout to fine dining, so regardless of where you like to eat out, it’s worthwhile to pay with this card. You’ll also get 3% back on purchases at gas stations, so if you plan to, say, spend your retirement years sightseeing on cross-country trips, the AARP® Credit Card would be a close ally.

For all other purchases, you’ll earn 1% cash back. Once you choose to redeem your accumulated rewards, Chase gives you the options of a statement credit; direct deposit to a checking or savings account; gift cards from multiple merchants; travel booking such as flights, hotel stays, and cruises; and renewal of your AARP® membership.

Should You Apply for the AARP® Credit Card from Chase?

While you would do well to pay with the AARP® Credit Card on dining simply because of the cash back earnings, you will also be actively helping feed others who suffer from lack of food. In partnership with AARP Foundation’s Drive to End Hunger®, Chase donates $0.10 of every purchase made at restaurants towards the campaign. It’s a noble effort that has amassed almost $9 million in donations just from cardmembers.
