About University Credit Union

University Credit Union is a member-owned-and-operated credit union in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The credit union is the official credit union of the University Miami, its faculty, staff, and alumni – as well as other local universities.

University Credit Union (UCU) began life as the University of Miami Credit Union in 1947. While the credit union formerly served only those associated with the “U,” membership expanded in the proceeding decades to include other South Florida institutions of higher learning.

In 1982, the credit union was renamed to its current name when membership eligibility was extended to Florida International University (FIU). In 1988, membership eligibility was extended further, to include St. Thomas University. Membership was also opened up to students at all campuses of those three universities.

In 2005, UCU merged with Lawyers Credit Union, and the next year the credit union opened the field of membership (FOM) to include all those who live or work in Miami-Dade County.
