About Los Angeles Federal Credit Union

Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) is a federally chartered credit union that traces its roots to the Great Depression.

In 1936, 12 Los Angeles City employees formed the Los Angeles City Employees Credit Union with just $60 in deposits. By the end of the year, membership had grown to 18, and a federal charter granted. For the next 50+ years, the credit union operated out of the same location: a room inside Los Angeles City Hall at 200 North Spring Street.

In 1987, the name of the credit union changed to its present incarnation, Los Angeles Federal Credit Union. This name change reflected the growing scope of members and the union itself. Today, the credit union boasts over 69,000 members, 160 employees, and 7 locations in Greater Los Angeles.
