About Latino Credit Union

Latino Credit Union is a Durham, North Carolina-based credit union that serves underbanked and immigrant communities in the area.

The credit union was established in 2000 as a grassroots response to a spate of muggings and robberies of the Latino immigrant community in Durham. The stated aim of the credit union is to provide the stimulus of community development and financial education for underbanked and immigrant communities.

Since its founding, Latino Credit Union has become a national model for credit unions that seek to serve underbanked communities. From just one location in Durham, the credit union now boasts a dozen locations and over 87,000 members.

Membership Eligibility

Joining Latino Credit Union is easy – you don’t even have to be Latino. Membership is open to anyone in the United States, and not just North Carolina.

To join Latino Credit Union, applicants must first join the Latino Community Development Center (LCDC). The LCDC is the community service arm of the credit union, providing educational resources to immigrants and those unbanked. A one-time family membership fee of $10 is all it takes to join.

Once you join the LDCD, fill out a Membership Application with the credit union, submit and send any additional information, and wait for a confirmation call from a Latino Credit Union representative.
