Learning about finances is adulting at its finest. However, it would be ideal to begin learning finance at a young age. OneUnited Bank and Marvel have joined forces to bring financial education to kids through their latest collaboration project. Here’s what you need to know.

Marvel Comics For Kids’ Financial Literacy

A collaboration for Kids’ Financial Education – that is what OneUnited Bank, Marvel, and Visa have set out to do. If you’re not familiar with OneUnited Bank, it is the largest black-owned bank in the U.S., highly awarded for its contributions to development lending for its community. Outside their banking services, OneUnited Bank promoted financial literacy through workshops for adults and children.

With that said, OneUnited Bank is partnering with Marvel Comics to bring a new fun, and exciting way to teach children best practices with finances. The bank handed out 500 custom comic books with financial literacy exercises on a first come first serve basis for National Superhero Day. The comic book art features the superhero duo, Black Panther, and Shuri. The comics were distributed out of OneUnited branch locations in Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, and Compton.

“I Got Bank” – A Financial Literacy Contest

The collab will also distribute digital copies of the comic book to participants of the 13th annual “I Got Bank” national financial literacy contest. The contest will have 10 selected winners (ages 8 through 12) awarded a $1,000 savings account at OneUnited Bank by August 31, 2023. The contest entry requires contesters to read a financial literacy book and submit a 250-word essay, or an art project, about what they learned. The submission deadline is June 30, 2023.

Teri Williams, OneUnited Bank President states, “We are excited to collaborate with Marvel Comics and Visa to promote financial literacy. Our contest, free e-book, and now this new comic book make it easy for families to teach their children how to save and make financial literacy a core value in the Black community!”
