About Members First Credit Union of Florida

Members First Credit Union of Florida (sometimes stylized as Members First CU of Florida) is a community-owned and operated financial institution with its headquarters in Escambia County, Florida.

The credit union’s history dates to May 1954 and Escambia County Teachers Credit Union. The initially stated goal of the credit union was encouraging savings by offering a good return on member investments.

Membership was initially open to school district administrative, instructional, and instructional-support employees. These criteria were soon expanded include both current and former students of the geographical area. This expansion of membership also resulted in a new name: Education Credit Union of Northwest Florida.

In 1996, the current name, Members First Credit Union of Florida, was adopted. The credit union continues its mission of providing exceptional service to members, including those who work, live, or attend school in Escambia, Santa Rosa, or Okaloosa counties.

Membership Eligibility

Membership with Members First Credit Union of Florida is based on geographic location and employment and educational status. Membership is currently available to anyone who:

  • Resides, works, or studies (including former students) in Escambia, Santa Rosa, or Okaloosa County, Florida
  • Is an employee or retiree of any educational institution in Escambia, Santa Rosa, or Okaloosa County, Florida
  • Holds membership – or associate membership – with the Escambia Retired Educators Association
  • Is an Immediate family member of any individual named above

Membership is also open to any groups within Santa Rosa County with 20 or more employees whose function is construction, manufacturing or industrial.

Additionally, any current, former, and retired employees or groups on retainer or who hold a contract with Sterling Fibers (Pace Plant), Cytec Industries, American Cyanamid, or Cyanamid Employees Credit Union, may join Members First CU.

To join the credit union, an applicant must open a Regular Savings Account (also known as a Shared Savings Account) and maintain a minimum balance of $5.
