While card issuers like Amex and Chase have been leading the charge regarding coronavirus updates, Citi has remained rather quiet by comparison. This week, however, the bank is unveiling new changes to two of its flagship credit cards. Here’s what you need to know about the new Citi Prestige® Card and Citi Premier® Card bonus categories.

New Citi Prestige Points Categories During COVID-19

The Citi Prestige® Card is the luxury travel card of the Citibank credit card lineup. Up until today, the only significant coronavirus addition to the Prestige credit card was the option of using the $250 annual statement credit for dining and grocery store purchases.

As of this week, Citi Prestige cardholders will earn 5X rewards points on purchases in select bonus categories through August 31, 2020. The select 5X categories are:

  • Retailer online orders
  • Grocery online orders
  • Drugstore online orders

Limitations to New Citi Prestige Offer

The new bonus categories only apply to Citibank cardholders who opened an account before May 22, 2020. New cardholders cannot enjoy these unique COVID-19 benefits. The bonus also only applies for up to 7,500 points.

New Citi Premier Bonus Categories Receive Early Launch

The Prestige isn’t the only Citibank credit card receiving new perks. The Citi Premier® Card is now granting 3X points on groceries and restaurant purchases. The new categories were originally scheduled for an August 23 debut, but Citi pulled the date closer due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The early launch is not displaying on the Citi website, but the financial institution is alerting media contacts about the changes.

 About Citi Credit Cards

Citi credit cards are popular options for those with excellent credit scores. The Prestige is a competitor for other high-end travel cards, like the Capital One Venture, The Mastercard Black Card, the Platinum Card from American Express, and the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

All Citi cards come with a host of member benefits. These include 24/7 Citi Concierge service, access to exclusive tickets through Citi Entertainment, and more.

Citi cards like the Premier and Prestige earn proprietary ThankYou Points. What’s more, ThankYou Points is one of the more versatile and valuable rewards points structures available today. Citi ThankYou points have a value of approximately 1.7 cents per point and transfer at a 1:1 rate to over 14 partner airlines.
