Discover has added carbonfund.org as a Cashback Bonus® redemption option for its credit cards. The new redemption option gives Discover credit cardholders the chance to help the environment with every swipe. Here are the details of the news:
Discover and Carbonfund.org Join Forces for New Cashback Bonus® Redemption Option
Discover offers a variety of redemption options for card members. These cash back options include statement credits, gift cards, and purchases with PayPal, Amazon, and more. Members also had several charitable options available, including donations to the ASPCA, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Children’s Miracle Network, and more.
Now, Discover cash back credit card members can apply their cash back rewards towards helping the planet.
Discover and Carbonfund.org join forces to allow holders of Discover credit cards to use their Cashback Bonus® rewards towards planting trees. Each dollar of Cashback Bonus® donated by cardmembers will plant one tree through projects in communities worldwide.
Sustainable Redemption Options
According to Discover, the Carbonfund platform provides the card issuer (and its millions of cardholders) “a seamless opportunity to support carbon offset initiatives and strengthen its rewards program with sustainable redemption options.”
Speaking in a press release accompanying the launch, Discover reiterated its desire to promote a low carbon future and help fight climate change.
“Discover takes seriously our responsibility to protect our shared natural resources and give back to our communities,” said Kate Manfred, chief marketing officer of Discover. “We know this is a priority for our cardmembers as well, and we’re proud to provide an innovative Cashback Bonus® redemption option that makes it easy for cardmembers to make an impact and help better our planet.”
Carbonfund also hailed the new partnership:
“We are very excited about our relationship with Discover, offering customers the opportunity to support formal tree planting projects around the globe as part of their Cashback Bonus® program. Discover is working to make a significant impact on mitigating climate change by providing opportunities for their customers to support world-class tree planting projects that also provide benefits to local rural communities.”
