Now, Bank of America is making the travel rewards dining redemption option permanent.
Bank of America Makes Limited-Time Travel Rewards Dining Option Permanent
The coronavirus pandemic dramatically impacted travel and continues to do so, causing many credit card issuers to offer special perks and limited bonuses to entice cardholders to keep their card accounts open. Bank of America was one such issuer, launching a special statement credit offer for Bank of America Travel Rewards Cardholders.
The original offer allowed cardholders to redeem their rewards points for dining and grocery purchases, with the offer running through the end of 2020. Bank of America is now extending part of that special offer indefinitely. Dining redemption is now a permanent feature of the Travel Rewards Card.
New Dining Award Options Steps into Premium Rewards Cards’ Turf
The new, permanent takeout and dining redemption option with the Travel Rewards Card somewhat steps on the toes of another rewards credit card from Bank of America – the Bank of America Premium Rewards Card. That card earns rewards points on takeout, dining, groceries, and travel. This means the Travel Rewards card now overlaps the Premium Rewards Card (except for grocery rewards).
Whether the permanent dining redemption options make Bank of America remove one of the cards from their current range remains to be seen. Many card issuers are refreshing their card lineups in the earlier stages of 2021 as consumers continue to seek out enticing offers that provide value in a post-COVID world.
